Sexuality

Today in my Women's Studies class, we had a heated discussion on sexuality and we touched a little on relationships. In this debate, I noticed that both point of views (heteros, and homos)bought up the Bible, but the evidence was never supplied. The Christian would say that the
Bible, instead of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, would fully explain the abomination of being with the same sex, while the "Gay" person would just say you can't judge me and that the church is full of hypocrites. They would continue to say that every sin is equal, which is true, but is this a just answer? Is this enough evidence? Another student insisted that the Bible is outdated and was written for a different time, but from my experiences history always repeats itself. It's true that society is changing with the times and new things occur, but is God happy with this changing society? Then there was a person who stated that man made the Bible and God didn't. So who are we really listening to? Someone also stated that we should just worry about ourselves and how to get into the "pearly gates."

There was also a topic bought up about different religions and how Christianity is targeted thoroughly in the discussion of homosexuality. Is there a reason why Chritians are always a target? Do not get me wrong, I am for gay rights under the Constitution and I am not homophobic! I am entitled to my own opinions and moral standards. I have my own Christian beliefs, I apply them to the way that I live and I just choose to look out for me but I would really love to hear from different people about their views.

Interesting points in your post - I find it very interesting how frequently some people who claim Christianity also claim that they are picked on for that belief. It's just counterintuitive - so much oppression takes place in the name of organized religion it's scary. That's not to say, of course, that all religion is bad, just that I don't think it's really honest for religious folk to claim oppression.

Good job with these posts!
